I have had the opportunity to work with Mike Butts in his role as National Installed Sales Manager for UBC.  In this role Mike was responsible for developing Installed Sales platform objectives and for achieving results, improving safety, increasing participation, and developing our Installed programs.  He worked within a 17-state area; our Installed centers consisted of 25-30 focused campaigns during his employment.

Mike made a number of solid contributions to the growth and development of our Installed program, including enhancement of its key product categories (insulation, sidings, cabinets, doors, and windows).  His program development activities induced refinement of financial practices and standards and exploring growth areas such as post-paint and framing installed services.  Additionally he was instrumental in helping to increase our Safety awareness and practices resulting in substantially fewer incidents for our Installed employees.

Letter to the Editor, ProSales Magazine

I enjoyed reading Mike Butts' recent article ("Adding Value" August 2005, page 40).  Since Bill Lee has stopped publishing "People and Profits," it is comforting to find someone like Mike writing articles that are near and dear to our industry.  Our organization took the position of adding value to our customers several years ago; however, with time we tend to forget "to dance with the one who brung you."  If you would please e-mail me the customer profile, I will share it with my salesman.  Thank you for your advise and wisdom in your articles, and I look forward to seeing more in the future.

Letter to the Editor, ProSales Magazine

 Mike Butts' article, "Adding Value", was very interesting.  This is the sort of thing my company is looking to do.  We need to be able to separate ourselves from the competition and give our customers reasons to buy from us, other than price.

I would really appreciate a copy of your customer profile.  This may just be the tool we need to take our company to the next level and really move us toward giving our customers the service they want and need from their lumber and truss supplier.  Thank you, Mike, for your insights and willingness to share what you have learned over the years.
